How I Found Grief Healing Through Travel

Immersed in a new culture, sampling new food, combined with the sheer thrill of the unknown was exactly what I needed to come out of the darkness. Lost in a myriad of happy tourists, travel made me forget.

Even if it was just for a while.

After each miscarriage, we planned a trip to somewhere spectacular. Just a little something to say; You’ve been through so much. Take a break and do your favourite thing in the whole world. Nurture your soul and feed your curiosity. Do things you have always dreamt of doing. Don’t let this define you because this is not who you are. You are vibrant and beautiful and have so much to look forward to in this life. Remind yourself how big and wonderful the world is. And how you fit into it and make up an essential part of its dynamics.

The trick to overcoming grief is to take it one day at a time. Whether that day is spent at dizzying heights on the highest accessible floor of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, or canoeing through limestone caves in Thailand, all that matters is that you can find something to make your heart smile, to make you feel alive and to put everything into perspective.

Even if it’s just for a while.
